A new express train service connecting Puri and Koraput is set to launch soon, promising faster and more efficient travel for passengers across Odisha. The Ministry of Railways has approved the service, which aims to improve rail connectivity in the eastern, western, and southern regions of the state.
The train will operate three times a week, with train number 18407 running from Puri to Koraput on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The return service, train number 18408, will depart Koraput for Puri on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Along its route, the train will stop at 19 stations, including key hubs such as Khurda Road, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, and Rayagada.
This new rail link is expected to strengthen connections between Puri, Sambalpur, and Koraput, facilitating easier access for devotees visiting religious sites in the region. Officials believe the service will benefit daily commuters and also attract more tourists and pilgrims, contributing to regional economic growth.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi acknowledged the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in making this service possible. Further details regarding the train’s schedule and ticketing are awaited.
