The Odisha government has announced plans to construct service lanes on both sides of the four-lane Bhubaneswar-Puri stretch of National Highway-316 to improve traffic flow towards the coastal city. This initiative aims to facilitate smoother travel and reduce congestion along the busy route.
Officials revealed that service roads will be built along the entire 67-kilometer stretch of the highway. Additionally, a six-lane elevated corridor is set to be developed on an 11-kilometer segment between Saptsati Square and Lingipur Square. These infrastructure enhancements are expected to shorten travel time between Bhubaneswar and Puri while easing traffic pressure in the state capital.
The project also includes the construction of dedicated utility corridors for essential services such as electricity, telephone, internet, water, and gas. This measure is particularly important given the frequent cyclone impact in the region, which affects both cities.
In a related development, an eight-lane service road featuring four lanes on each side will be constructed along NH-16 from Palasuni to Tamando within Bhubaneswar. This is anticipated to significantly improve traffic conditions in the capital area.
Further official details regarding timelines and implementation are awaited.
