Devotees Observe Sabitri Amavasya with Rituals at Puri Jagannath Temple; Bhitara Chandan Yatra in Progress

Special religious ceremonies are underway at the Puri Jagannath Temple on the occasion of Sabitri Amavasya. Married women have gathered at the temple to pray for the health and longevity of their husbands, engaging in traditional worship involving fruits, conch bangles, and vermillion.

The temple premises have been filled with a spiritual atmosphere since early morning as devotees participate in these customary observances. Alongside these prayers, the Bhitara Chandan Yatra rituals are being conducted inside the temple complex.

A significant part of the celebrations includes the Jala Krida ritual, held at the Jala Krida Mandap within the inner sanctum of the temple. This ritual is performed on specific auspicious days, including Sabitri Amavasya, and involves the participation of the Chalanti Pratima deities.

Following the completion of initial rituals such as Diba Alata Lagi and Chandan Lagi, the deity Madanmohan moves to the Ratna Singhasan. Subsequently, Lord Madanmohan and Goddess Sridevi receive the Agyanmala and proceed to the water tank area, where the idols are ceremonially immersed by temple servitors. Additional rituals like Sitala Bhoga, Srianga Pocha, and Mailama follow, with the idols being decorated with flower garlands.

After the Jala Krida ritual concludes, Goddess Sridevi returns to the Ratna Singhasan for further rites, while Madanmohan moves to the Dakhini Ghara. Further official details on the ongoing ceremonies are awaited.
